Scintilla

Nosound’s fifth album marks a major departure and includes guest appearances from Anathema’s Vincent Cavanagh and acclaimed Italian singer Andrea Chimenti

After a decade of crafting a very particular type of widescreen melancholia and wistful imagery, Nosound’s fifth studio album Scintilla introduces a wholly new musical and visual approach for Giancarlo Erra’s ever-evolving band.

Inspired by personal upheaval and a desire for change, Scintilla is an emotionally complex and musically direct work presenting a stripped-down set of compositions that mark a major departure from Nosound’s trademark symphonic lushness and production precision.

Taking in influences from Post Rock, Shoegaze and Alt-Singer-Songwriters, the album imaginatively utilises a mostly organic and acoustic sound palette.

Musically looser and more sonically intimate than the band’s previous releases, Scintilla’s emphasis is placed firmly on feeling rather than technique.

Anathema’s Vincent Cavanagh lends his distinctive vocals to two of the album’s tracks, and cellist Marianne De Chastelaine returns once more to the Nosound fold (this time in a more free-flowing and improvisational capacity). Acclaimed Italian singer Andrea Chimenti co-writes and sings on the serene Sogno E Incendio.

Shifting from the uncharacteristic sarcasm of Love Is Forever and potent anger of The Perfect Wife to the dreamy sensitivity of Emily and the unusually uplifting Celebration Of Life, Scintilla represents the boldest statement of Nosound’s career so far.

A cathartic album of emotional extremes, Scintilla marks the brave beginning of the second phase of Nosound’s fascinating career.

Nosound - At The Pier (Kscope/Snapper)

strictly limited EP in digipak
featuring Chris Maitland (former Porcupine Tree) on drums

Release date:
26th November 2012

At The Pier

At The Pier, the new EP from Nosound, features three new tracks and hints at the promise of the band's forthcoming 2013 album release.

Featuring Chris Maitland (ex-Porcupine Tree) on drums and Marianne De Chastelaine on cello, the material demonstrates a more direct and powerful approach for the band. Chris Maitland, who plays on all of the tracks on the new album, adds a dynamic dimension to Nosound's music and ushers in a new era for the Italian band.

Band leader Giancarlo Erra describes the tracks that make up At The Pier:

"In general I would say that The Anger Song is rougher and bleaker than anything Nosound has attempted before. 'Angry' indeed! A New Start is more typically Nosound, but like my work with Memories Of Machines, I'd say it's almost uplifting in a melancholic way. Majestic music with twisted lyrics. An interesting mix of blues and post-rock packed into one song. Two Monkeys is based around piano, upright bass and sampled strings and contains deeply personal lyrics. It also features Marianne De Chastelaine on cello."

A limited edition digipak format release, all pre-orders came with an exclusive Nosound guitar pick (1.0mm)

Tracklist:
1. A New Start
2. The Anger Song
3. Two Monkeys (alt. version)

Available as matte digipak with booklet and custom made limited Nosound guitar pick (1.0mm) for all preorders.

a sense of loss

http://www.kscopemusic.com/nosound

'A Sense Of Loss' is Nosound's follow up to 2008's 'Lightdark' and builds on its predecessor by introducing a more alternative post-rock element to Nosound's ever evolving sound. Giancarlo describes the album as a 'move from the classic 'rock' (or rock ambient) approach used in Lightdark to a more unique sound, with influences from more contemporary alt and post rock.'
To create this sound the band used less synths (any that were used were almost all a strict selection of vintage synth sounds) and more real instruments including a string quartet, leading to 'an even more emotional recording than Lightdark'. Erra goes on to state, 'The overall production and sound have moved to a more 'natural' overall sound, combined with some different sounds and approaches, a little far from Lightdark, but still distinctively Nosound (probably more now than before).'
The album was written, recorded, produced, mixed and mastered at Nosound Studio (Rome) by Giancarlo Erra. Additional production was by Paolo Martellacci, Gigi Zito, Alessandro Luci, Paolo Vigliarolo. Additional recordings made at PanPot Studio (Rome) by Gigi Zito and Diapason Studio (Rome) by Simone Satta.
